SANDAL FACTORY CATCHES FIRE, SIX PEOPLE RESCUED

Jakarta, Match 12 (ANTARA) - The "Swallow" sandal factory in West Jakarta caught fire on Thursday night and fire brigade personnel rescued six people in the incident.

"The fire was still burning. Fire brigade officers were still at the scene," said Suhardi, officer on duty of the West Jakarta fire brigade said early Friday.

"Two people were injured and we have admitted them to a hospital," he said.

According to him, 21 fire trucks from the West Jakarta fire department had been deployed to extinguish the flames devouring the factory at Jalan Kamal Raya No.34.

There was no fatality reported so far in the fire that torched the factory since Thursday afternoon.
It was reported earlier that 15 workers were trapped in the building.

Suhardi said, it was difficult to extinguish the fire because there were chemicals which easily burn.

In addition, many making materials were stored in the factory that make it difficult to extinguish the flames, he disclosed.
