Pakistan, Afghanistan to bring trade to USD 5 bln by 2015.
ISLAMABAD, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Pakistan and Afghanistan have
decided to bring the volume of bilateral trade to five billion dollars by
2015. A corresponding agreement was reached during a two-day official
visit of Afghan President Hamid Karzai to Islamabad.
The foreign ministries of Pakistan and Afghanistan will be instructed
in the near future to draft the so-called road map aimed at encouraging
bilateral economic interaction. A special emphasis in this document will
be laid on development of the two countries' road infrastructure, air
communication, as well as spheres of energy. In particular, the presidents
of the two countries have already instructed corresponding departments to
complete as soon as possible the construction of a high-speed motor
highway connecting Pakistan's Peshawar and Afghanistan's Jelalabad. They
were also instructed to make in the near future a feasibility study of
possibilities of establishing railway communication between these two
cities.
During the talks held by the Pakistani and Afghan sides, it was
decided to set up a so-called forum of top-managers of the countries of
the Great Silk Way and a Pakistani-Afghan consortium which will be engaged
in restoring economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Pakistani side has already pledged to increasing quotas for
training Afghan students at Pakistani colleges to 2,000 people. Besides,
an Institute of Management and Business Administration, which will be
engaged in training cadres for Afghanistan's reviving business, will be
created soon.
To ensure more effective food security, the leaders of Pakistan and
Afghanistan decided to create in the future a Pakistani-Afghan Food Bank,
which will, in particular, finance joint projects in the field of
agriculture.
