Luang Prabang promotes tourism

(KPL) - Luang Prabang held a meeting last week on its tourism work for 2007-08 period. The event was under the chairmanship of Deputy Governor of Luang Prabang, Dr Khampheng Saysompheng, with the attendance of Head of Tourism Service of Luang Prabang Mr. Khamphui Khommavong, and representatives from Xayaboury, Oudomxay, Xieng Khuang and Huaphan provinces.

Luang Prabang put the first priority to tourism to promote its
socio-economic development growth and ensure revenues collection for state coffer.

Entire the province there are 30 hotels with over 700 rooms, 218
guesthouses with 2,200 rooms, 32 tour operators and 56 restaurants.
Last year Luang Prabang raked in almost 700 billion kip from the visiting
of 311,600, much over than 2006 in which around 500 billion kip were
generated from 275,000 tourists.

The province estimates that it will welcome over 178,000 tourists this year,
increased by 15.3 per cent over 2007.
Early this year the World Heritage town of Luang Prabang wins award by the
UK leading travel magazine, Wanderlust, of the 'Top City Gold Award', for the third successive year.
