KPK YET TO FIND STRONG EVIDENCE IN BANK CENTURY CASE
Jakarta, March 15 (ANTARA) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chief Haryono Umar said the commission had so far not found any strong evidence in the Century Bank case that would justify a further investigation.
"Information from the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee is not enough," he said after receiving personal wealth reports from members of the Regional Representatives Council here on Monday.
He said the result of the committee's investigation was still information and it was not that easy to follow it up.
Another KPK deputy Bibit Samad Riyanto said in dealing with a corruption case KPK must be very careful with a view to finding strong evidence.
KPK must not carelessly upgrade the status of a case from being under a probe to under investigation. For it KPK at least had to have minimally strong pieces of evidence.
"It takes a long time to unveil alleged corruption because it is not easy," he said.
Haryono called on the people to remain patient and to understand KPK's work in connection with the Bank Century case.
"KPK has just probed the Bank Century case for a few months. A case once took more than a year to put it under investigation," he said.
The House of Representatives (DPR) has recommended investigation of the case due to alleged corruption involved in it.
Corruption observer Saldi Isra said the DPR recommendation was a moderate move. He said the people are waiting for the follow up of the case.
He said if the follow up by the KPK was interfered by politics he feared the case would become a time bomb ahead of the 2014 general elections.
