Project launched to raise environmental protection awareness

Hanoi (VNA) - A new environmental protection programme titled Go Green (Hanh trinh xanh) will be implemented across the country between now and 2011 for the target of a green Vietnam.

Toyota Motor Viet Nam (TMV), the Viet Nam Environment Protection Agency
(VEPA) and the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) will jointly work
out and carry out the project.

The joint effort stems from TMV's idea of creating a hub to promote
environmental protection activities in cooperation with other organisations
and dedicated environmental volunteer groups in Vietnam .

It aims to raise awareness of the community about environmental protection
and get people into gradually changing their behaviour. It also hopes to
directly implement and support other environmental activities which focus on
minimising and halting damages to the environment as well as offer support
and aid to individuals and organisations affected by environmental damages.

Go Green will be performed through three modules: practical activities to
protect the environment; education and information campaigns to raise
awareness on environmental protection, and support for the sustainability of
those activities run by community themselves.

The programme will, in conjunction with the Education for Nature Vietnam
(ENV) centre, multiply the education model to residents and students living
in areas surrounding national parks and nature reserves.

It will also support projects using biogas to fuel electric generator and
develop bio-villages across the country.-Enditem
