the official noted. "Among them are matters related to the Iraqi and
Middle East settlement, the situation around the Iranian nuclear programme
and Kosovo, the situation in the Trans-Caucasus region and in Central
Asia, the Cyprus settlement, interaction within the framework of the
Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and other acting Black

The ministers will exchange views on prospects for the development of
bilateral trade-economic relations. In the words of Nesterenko, "stable
positive tendencies have been registered here." According to him,
"Reaching a record 22.5 billion US dollars in 2007, the mutual trade
volume has been 10.6 billion dollars over the four first months of this
year alone," an increase of 63.3 percent as compared to the same period
last year.

The diplomat said that the "total amount of direct Turkish investment
in Russia reached six billion dollars." "Russian businesses are also
actively opening for themselves the investment possibilities in the
Turkish economy," he said.

"Interaction in the gas energy sector is developing at an increasing
tempo. In the light of Turkey's tender for the construction of the first
nuclear power plant in this country announced this year, Russian
organisations display an interest in establishing cooperation in this
field," Nesterenko said.

Tourism is a traditionally active sphere in relations between Russia
and Turkey. "Its impressive volumes considerably help bring the two
nations closer together and strengthen mutual understanding between them,"
Nesterenko noted. According to the official, "About two million Russian
