CHANGE IN TERRORISTS` TARGETS, ACTION PATTERN IN RI : POLICE

Jakarta, March 17 (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri said there had been a change with regard to targets and patterns used by terrorists in Indonesia.

"Based on the results of development as I said yesterday that indeed Dulmatin has ordered, according to a witness we have caught alive, a 'fa'i'," he said at the state palace after attending an international seminar on "Indonesia Towards 2025."

He said fa'i are attacks with violence on certain targets.

"That is one of the patterns that we also saw being used in the past but it is now being more focused," he said.

Asked if the targets now are not only foreigners but also those they consider on their opposite side, General Bambang Hendarso Danuri said "No but they are those they consider 'as if they are like us', be policemen, army members (TNI) or government officials. They consider them 'thagut' (idols). They are then legitimate to be used as targets," he said.

He said the police received information about the change in targets from those seized. When asked on the possibility of the palace being one of the targets, he denied it.

"It is not as specific as that. But what is clear is that they have conducted a series of activities based upon patterns that have already been development to be different from those used in the past.

They carried them through a military-like exercise and using different kinds of weapons. They no longer used bombs. It means a new pattern has been developed," he said.

The national police further said to overcome movements of the terrorists in the community the police would continue pursuing them and inform the people about the need for them to participate in preventing members of their network to conduct violence and spread their ideology.

Regarding the terrorist group in Aceh, he said the police are still searching 12 of its members.

General Bambang Hendarso Danuri visited the location of the clash between the police and the terrorist group in Leupeung, Aceh Besar, where two suspected terrorists had been killed.

The two terrorist suspects - Jaja alias Enceng Kurnia and Pura Sudarma - have long been wanted by the police.***
