PURNOMO: RI-US MILITARY RELATIONS GOOD
Jakarta, March 17 (ANTARA) - Defense minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Indonesia's military relations with the US has been running well particularly after the revocation of US military embargo in November 2005.
"The cooperation between the two countries is based upon principles of equality and balance without any conditions. The principles are applied for the relations with any country. We are a sovereign country, have a territory, that is the basic principle," he said here on Wednesday.
He said to deepen the military relations between the two countries there had been various forums such as the Indonesia-United States Security Dialogue (IUSSD) and the US-Indonesian Bilateral Defense Dialouge (USIBDD). The IUSSD are implemented in the forms of among others joint exercises, education, operations and logistics.
He said there was also cooperation between the Indonesian military (TNI) and the US Pacific Command (US PACOM) under the USIBDD since 1997.
Although it was once stopped in 2002 following the US military emargo on Indonesia the TNI-US PACOM cooperation has now been normal again.
"So we do not see any problem here," he said.***
