MATERIAL LOSS CAUSED BY FLASH FLOODS IN SOLOK RP75 BILLION
Padang, Mar 18 (ANTARA) - The material loss incurred by the flash floods in Nagari Sungai Janiah, Gunung Talang subdistrict, Solok regency, West Sumatra, on Tuesday (Mar 16) had amounted to Rp75 billion.
Scores of houses were hit by the flash floods, and tens of hectares of rice fields were damaged, may be difficult to harvest, and two bridges seriously damaged, said Ade Edwar, the West Sumatra Disaster Handling Coordinator here Thursday.
He also said that the two bridges which had been cut off were linking Nagari Sungai Janiah and Nagari Koto Anau, in Jorong Talago Dadok, Nagari Sungai Janiah, Lembang Jaya subdistrict, and linking Nagari Sungai with Nagari Gunung Talan in Jorong Tabek Patah, Nagari Talang, Gunung Talang subdistrict, Solok regency, West Sumatra.
"Consequently, thousands of residents of became isolated, but there were no fatalities", he added.
He also said that a SAR team, the police along with the residents were still clearing their surroundings from waste materials from the foot of Gunung Talang, Gunung Talang subdistrict, Solok regency.
He has evacuated the flood victims to safer places like mosques, school buildings, while the local administration has sent food and other daily necessaries for the victims, built emergency tents and kitchens.
