KPK DENIES BEING SLOW IN HANDLING BANK CENTURY CASE

Semarang, Indonesia, March 18 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has denied that it was slow in handling the controversial Bank Century case.

KPK deputy chairman Bibit Samad Riyanto said KPK was still in the process of collecting evidence related to the alleged irregularities and unlawful acts in the bank's bailout.

"Any information from anywhere will be used to collect evidence," he said after speaking at a national dialogue here on Thursday.

Regarding statements from some quarters accusing the KPK of being slow in handling the case he said it was up to them to state that.

"The slow or quick issue is relative. People may say anything. People have different speed in doing things," he said.

"What is certain is that we are seriously handling the case, which is believed to involve some important officials and inflicting a loss of trillions of rupiahs," he said.

He said KPK has now formed nine sub-teams which have effectively worked since January 2010 after receiving results of audit investigation in December 2009.

"All who are allegedly involved will be summoned according to the needs of KPK investigators handling the case," he said.***
