CHINESE PRIME MINISTER TO VISIT RI IN APRIL

Jakarta, March 19 (ANTARA) - Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao is to visit Indonesia next April 2010, Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, said here on Friday at a press conference.

"The visit will give substantial meaning to the Indonesia-China strategic partnership. In fact, this year the two countries will mark the 60th year of their bilateral relations," the minister said.

He said the Indonesian government was preparing the agenda to be discussed during the Chinese prime minister's visit. It would cover economic matters, trade, investment and people-to-people contacts.

"There is a large potential if we can have good relations with China. It will have a positive effect on bilateral cooperation between the two countries," Marty said.
After the Chinese prime minister's visit, Indonesia would welcome US President Barack Obama who was scheduled to come to Indonesia some time in June 2010.

Asked whether about the significance of Obama's visit happening at about the same time as the Chinese prime minister's, Marty dismissed speculation that China and the US were competing to influence Indonesia as one of the leading countries in the Southeast Asia region.

"There's no competition here. I see their coming as a reflection of Indonesia's important position in the international world," he said.
