KARAWANG FLOODS INUNDATE 500 HOMES
Karawang, W Java, March 19 (ANTARA) - Floods inundated more than 500 homes at nine villages in Karawang district, West Java, on Friday due to the overflowing of Citarum river.
Data from the Karawang district social service show the floods affected the four subdistricts of Telukjambe Timur, Karawang Barat, Karawang Timur, and Ciampel.
The floods hit the hardest Karawang Barat Indah housing clompex where the water level reached 1 m high.
In Karawang Barat subdistrict, the floods hit five villages, namely Tanjungpura, Tanjungmekar, Adiarsa Barat, Karawang Kulon, and Nagasari. The water level in the flood-stricken villages ranged from 30 cm to 1 m.
In Ciampe subdistrict the floods inundated tens of houses at Tegallega village.
"Since the wee hours of Friday the flood water continued to increase apparently because rains fell in Bandung and Purwakarta," Surya, a resident of flooded-Bintang Alam housing complex said.***
