PKS CADRES STAGE RALLY EXPRESSING SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINIANS

Kendari, SE Sulawesi, March 21 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of Justice and Prosperity Party (PKS) sympathizers in the Southeast Sulawesi provincial capital of Kendari staged a rally on Sunday to express their solidarity with the plight of Palestinians.

The PKS sympathizers gathered at ex-MTQ square in Kendari from where they later marched to Al-Kautsar Mosque compound to hold an oration denouncing Israeli aggression at Al Aqsa Mosque.

"As a predominantly Muslim nation, we cannot do nothing and must support and defend our Muslim brothers in Palestine," the rally's coordinator, Zulkhaeni, said in his oration before the PKS sympathizers.

The protesters carried Palestinian and PKS flags and unfurled banners denouncing Israeli arrogance.

The other orator, Khulafal Rasyidin who is also a member of the Kendari municipal legislative council (DPRD) urged the Indonesian government to play its optimum political role and lobby the world community at the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to convene an emergency meeting to condemn Israel's aggression.

Besides holding the oration, the event's organizers also raised funds from the PKS sympathizers through the so-called "One Man One Dollar" to help alleviate the financial burden of Palestinians who fell victim to the Israeli aggression.
