SOUTH BANDUNG FLOOD SPREADING

Bandung, W Java, March 21 (ANTARA) - Flood that affected Baleendah and Dayeuhkolot in South Bandung district in the past few days had been spreading to other areas on Sunday.

Heavy rains that fell in the district for eight hours until early Sunday caused Citarum river to overflow.
The flood cut off land communication between Baleendah and Bandung city as 2-meter deep flood water submerged a road near Baleendah gas station.

"The water level near the gas station for the first time rose to 2 meters," public transport driver Wawan said.

Many motorists cancelled their trip to Bandung city from South Bandung district or the other way around after the road linking the two areas was cut off.

The only alternative road linking the two areas was totally congested on Sunday.

By Sunday morning, hundreds of homes in a number of areas such as Cieunteung and Andir were submerged by flood water.

The flood forced residents of the two areas to flee to high ground in the past few days. Meanwhile, other residents who were trapped by flood water on the second floor of their houses had been evacuated.

In Dayeuhkolot subdistrict, flood caused by the overflowing of Citepus river prompted a number of factories to cease operation.
