Mongolia govt to hold emergency meeting after mass unrest

BEIJING, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - The government of Mongolia is to hold an emergency meeting in Ulan Bator on Wednesday following the imposition of a state of emergency last night after mass unrest that gripped the city.

The Montsame news agency reports referring to unofficial information
that meetings of the National Security Council and the State Great Khural
(SGK) are also to be held on Wednesday morning.

However, at this moment there are only 23 parliamentarians in the
capital out of 76. Meanwhile SGK Chairman Danzany Lundezhantsan has
returned to the capital from the province where he was during Sunday's
parliamentary elections.

The unrest in Ulan Bator began after the opposition stated that the
polling results had been falsified. According to unofficial data, the
ruling Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party won a victory with a
considerable margin, gaining thereby a majority of votes in the SGK. The
Central Electoral Commission has not made public up to now the preliminary
results of polling, pleading vote-counting difficulties under the new
electoral system.
