MARINE FORCES THWART HIJACKING OIL TANKER ATTEMPT



SANA'A, March 24(Saba)- Yemeni marine forces thwarted on Wednesday
Somali pirates' attempt to hijack Yemeni oil tankers in Shabwa
coast. The tanker was heading to Aden port.

Our marine forces were following up four boats on board armed Somali
pirates attempting hijack Yemeni oil tanker, brigadier Rowais
Mujawar, commander of Marine Forces and Coast Defense told
military-run 26 sep. net.

He said the pirates were besieging the Yemeni oil tanker and the
forces engaged in clashes with them and foiled the attack. He added
that the forces followed the pirates' boats after fleeing,
indicating that no harm afflicted the tanker and that the ship is in
its way to the destination.

The attempt is the second since last July 2009 when the marine
forces thwarted an attack against a Yemeni oil tanker in the Bab
el-Mandab on its way from Hodeida to the Gulf of Aden.

Yemeni marine forces carry out continuous patrols to combing Yemeni
coats overlooking the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Arab Sea.
