BRITISH-TURKISH DELEGATION PLACES US$1.82 MLN IN ORDERS
KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- A recent delegation of British and
Turkish companies on a buying mission to Malaysia has resulted in them placing
orders valued at US$1.82 million (about RM6 million) with Malaysian companies
for various locally made products.
An additional US$16.35 million (about RM54 million) in potential sales were
also identified by the delegation representing nine companies, led by the
UK-based British-Turkish Business Association.
Among the products sourced by delegation members included confectionery,
cooking oil, energy saving products, furnishing and upholstery fabrics, gift
items, recycled energy waste solutions and textiles, the Malaysia External Trade
Development Corporation (Matrade) said in a statement Wednesday.
The visit on March 3 saw 39 business meetings being held, organised by
Matrade.
"The delegation members were satisfied with the outcomes of their business
meetings with Malaysian companies and indicated their interest in coming back to
Malaysia, particularly for Matrade's key buying events such as the Seventh
Malaysia International Halal Showcase on June 23-27 and Intrade Malaysia 2010 on
Nov 9-11.
"A number of the delegation members stated that they had already arranged to
make future business visits to the manufacturing facilities of selected
Malaysian companies," Matrade said.
The statement quoted Matrade Chief Executive Officer Noharuddin Nordin
as saying that the success of this buying mission was positive indication that
European companies were already gearing themselves for renewed growth and
consumer demand in 2010 and beyond.
"This bodes well for Malaysian exporters, and Matrade will be strengthening
its efforts to attract other European business and trade associations to
undertake similar sourcing and purchasing missions to Malaysia in the near
future," he said.
