POLICE PROBING ALLEGED BRIBING OF TWO GENERALS
Jakarta, March 24 (ANTARA) - National police chief detective Commissioner General Ito Sumardi said here on Wednesday investigators were currently investigating alleged bribery involving two generals and two investigation officers.
"We are striving to make the case immediately solved. Hopefully in the near future a resolution could be made if the bribery has indeed occured or not," he said.
He said several witnesses had been questioned but so far none of them had confirmed that there had indeed been bribery.
In view of that Ito hoped former national police chief intelligence Commissioner General Susno Duadji would give the evidence to confirm that "what he said could be accounted before the law."
Susno recently made a statement in which he suspected a foul play in the police investigation on suspicious account worth Rp25 billion belonging to tax official Gayus Tambunan.
He said in connection with the case the police had only confiscated Rp395 million as the evidence while they did not block the rest amount upon a reason that it was not linked to a criminal act.
He said the account had now been empty as the money had all been withdrawn by Gayus.
Susno suspected that a broker had played a role in the case because investigators only investigated the Rp395 million fund not the Rp25 billion.
He had accused Brigadier General Edmon Ilyas now Lampung regional police chief and Brigadier Raja Erizman now second director of the national police intelligence and two middle-level investigators of being involved in it.
Because of the accusation Edmond and Raja had filed a defamation lawsuit against Susno to the police.***
