RUPIAH WEAKENS 13 POINTS AGAINST US DOLLAR

Jakarta, March 25 (ANTARA) - The rupiah weakened against the US dollar in the interbank spot market here Thursday morning.

The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,133-Rp9,143 per US dollar, down 13 points from Rp9,120-Rp9,130 per US dollar at the market's close a day earlier.

Farial Anwar, a domestic money market observer, said the rupiah fluctuation tended to be in a narrow range, putting its position at between Rp9,100 and Rp9,150 per US dollar.

"We are optimistic that the rupiah will reach the level of below Rp9,000 per US dollar as the currency still has a chance to move upward further," he said.
