SINGAPORE RECEIVES 857,000 VISITORS IN FEBRUARY
By Zakaria Abdul Wahab
SINGAPORE, March 26 (Bernama) -- Visitor arrivals to Singapore grew by 24.2
per cent year-on-year last month to 857,000.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said Friday the growth was the highest
ever recorded, and this was also the third consecutive month of record visitor
arrivals.
In its monthly report, STB said the city-state's top five visitor-generating
markets in Feb 2010 were Indonesia with 144,000 visitors, followed by China
143,000 visitors, Malaysia 69,000 visitors, Australia 55,000 visitors and United
Kingdom 48,000 visitors.
These markets accounted for 53 per cent of total visitor arrivals for the
month, STB said.
It added that China (+78.7 per cent), Malaysia (+50.0 per cent) and Taiwan
(+39.2 per cent) registered their highest growth out of the top 15 markets,
which could be largely attributed to the Chinese New Year holiday.
STB said 13 out of the top 15 markets also registered positive year-on-year
growth last month, reflecting the general improvement in travel sentiment to
Singapore.
Gazetted hotel room revenue was estimated at S$133 million, representing an
increase of 5.8 percent compared to a year ago, the report also said.
