Industrial development master plan for northern provinces discussed



(KPL) Senior officials of four ministries and the National Economic Research Institute gathered here on 30-3 July in a meeting to brainstorm ideas for a long-term master plan on economic and industrial development for northern provinces.

The meeting held the co-chairmanship of Mrs. Silivanh, director of the National Economic Research Institute, and the Vice-President of the Development and Reform Committee of Yunnan province of China, was attended by officials of four ministries, including Mining and Energy, Agriculture and Forestry, Public Works and Transport, and Industry and Commerce.

The master plan has been drafted since 2004 under the sponsorship of the Chinese Government, which has sent 20 Chinese experts to help create this master plan on economic and industrial development for northern Laos.

The significant master plan will be divided into two stages of
implementation of the economic and industrial development from 2008 to 2015 and 2015-2020.

The master plan will focus on the co-ordination of industrial sectors, including commerce, investment and agricultural development, in the northern region.
