Savannakhet rice field expanded by 2,000 ha

(KPL) Agriculture and Forestry Service of Savannakhet has said the rice farmland of farmers in the province have increased by 2,000 ha or 1.3 % from last year.

Head of Cultivation Division, Agriculture and Forestry Service of Savannakhet, Mr. Somnuk Soumano, said this week, "So far this rainy season the farmers across the province have planted rice on 53% of 155,000 ha.

Compared to last year, the rice plantation by farmers is earlier and we believe that at the end of this month they will complete their rice plantation."

Rice species for cultivation has increased from 9,180 tonnes last year to 9,300 tonnes this year or increased by 1.3%. We estimate the rice yield of the province will be 3.65 tonnes a hectare on average or as much as 565,800 tonnes in a total.
