HOME MINISTRY BANS FOUR CHINESE BOOKS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry has banned four Chinese books for contents deemed unsuitable for public reading, a statement said here Tuedsay.

Two of the books were published in Hong Kong while the others were published
in Beijing and Taipei, the Publishing Control and Al-Quran Text Division said in
a statement.

The ban gazetted on March 11, 2010 makes it an offence to own, print, sell,
distribute, import, produce and reproduce the books.

It was made under Section 7 (1) of Printing Presses and Publications Act
1984.

"Offenders can be jailed not more than three years or fined not more than
RM20,000 (US$1=RM3.25) or both," the statement said.

The Hong Kong books were titled "Pretty Woman and Matured" and "Enchanted
Angel" published by Qiang Ba Publishing House.

The Beijing book titled "Visionary," was published by Lead Publishing Ltd Co
and the Taipei book titled "X President" was published by Da Han Publishing
House.
