NEW ECONOMIC MODEL MAY CHANGE PEOPLE'S WORK METHODS, MINDSET
PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), April 1 (Bernama) -- The New Economic Model
(NEM) introduced by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak contained methods to
transform the way Malaysians worked and thought, in line with becoming a high
income country,
Information Communication and Culture Deputy Minister Joseph Salang Gandum
said Wednesday.
"I believe our country needs the NEM because it feels like we are stuck
in the middle-income group, and this situation has prolonged for years.
"Changes for government transformation does not only include the way we
work, but also our complacency," he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia
Pantun (Malay poetic form) SMS Competition here Wednesday.
Salang said communication was important in helping to push economic
performance
in the future.
"The country and consumers will benefit from communications facilities
because work can be done through a new and effective method.
"For example, the information that we can get through telecommunications
and
broadband will make us a more informed community that is open to changes and
differences," he said.
Meanwhile, Salang said the 1Malaysia Pantun SMS Competition was a good
initiative to promote the 1Malaysia concept without forgetting the traditional
pantun.
The competition, initiated by Information Communication and Culture
Minister Dr Rais Yatim, is aimed at fostering the 1Malaysia
spirit and make pantuns popular among the people.
