INDIA WELCOMES TWINNING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN KUALA LUMPUR, CHENNAI
KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) -- India's High Commissioner to Malaysia
Vijay Keshav Gokhale said Thursday that it was a good idea to establish twinning
relationships between Kuala Lumpur and Chennai.
"This is a proposal that was first made by the Malaysian side when Prime
Minister Najib visited India, We are looking forward to such
twinning relationships," he told Bernama after officiating the Madras Canvas
Exhibition here Thursday.
Vijay said Chennai had a special relationship with a lot of Malaysians and
that it augured well for India to build an overall strategic relationship with
Malaysia.
He also said Malaysia and India needed to substantially enhance engagement
between both countries.
"Malaysia is a very well-developed country. India is an emerging economy in
the region. We need Malaysia's expertise in the infrastructure sector like
building roads, townships and bus stations.
According to Vijay, the Madras Canvas Exhibition held here, was one of the
platforms to strenghthen the relationship with Malaysia.
The Madras Canvas Exhibition is a collaboration between The Indian Cultural
Centre (ICC) Kuala Lumpur, Forum Art Gallery (Chennai) and Sutra Gallery.
It ends on May 1.
