F1 MSIAN GP HAS BOOSTED MALAYSIA AS TOURIST DESTINATION
KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- The Formula One Malaysia Grand Prix has
contributed significantly in branding Malaysia as a 'top of the mind' tourist
destination, Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen said.
"This has placed Malaysia among the top tourist destinations globally, or if I
may say it in simple F1 terms, we are front runners for the pole position," she
said at the Malaysian Grand Prix Gala 2010, here Friday night.
Prime Minister Najib Razak was the guest of honour at the dinner.
Ng said a record 23.6 million tourists visited Malaysia last year compared to
7.9 million in 1999 when the Formula One made its debut in Malaysia.
"In 2008, the Malaysia Grand Prix attracted 126,690 spectators, including 34,206
foreigners," she added.
This year's GP will roar off on Sunday.
