The testimony of police constable Gurunath Naik, the
first cop to see the body, will open the trial before the
court as he was the first policeman to reach the scene.
Police driver Vishant Chopdekar, accompanying Gurunath
and head constable Kishor Kumar Naik, police constable Atmaram
Gawas and lady police constable Reshma Naik will also be
examined as they conducted 'panchanama' (records of the site
where the body is found) of the body.
Among the locals, beach shack owners Baptist Anthony De
Souza, Fidelis Paul De Souza and Nirdosh Majhi, resident
Agnelo Baptist De Souza and a home guard Dyaneshwar
Talawanekar will also be brought in witness box during the
first phase of trial.
The CBI has submitted list of 72 witnesses to the court,
who would be examined by the court, which will take up the
case thrice a week.
Scarlett death case had hit the headlines way back in
2008 after local police botched it up and tried to cover it by
terming the death as "accidental or suicidal."
Fiona's accusation against the policemen had prompted
second line of investigation by police, who zeroed down on two
locals, for drugging, raping and leaving Scarlett to die on
the shore.
Samson, a bartender was arrested on March 9, 2008
followed by arrest of Placido Carvalho on March 13, 2008, who
is into illegal gambling as per the chargesheet.
As Fiona continued her discontent against police, the
case was handed over to CBI, who filed the final chargesheet.
