USM COLLABORATES WITH GERMAN VARSITY ON MARINE BIOTECH DEVELOPMENT

PENANG (Malaysia), April 5 (Bernama) -- A memorandum of understanding (MoU)
was signed between Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysia Science University-USM))
and the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn, Germany to undertake
joint research on projects especially ocean studies.
USM Vice-Chancellor Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said the MoU would be
focusing on research projects including marine biotechnology development and
ocean studies in the Straits of Malacca.
"The collaboration would enable us to conduct research on ocean studies,
environment, biodiversity and knowledge hub," he said in his welcoming remarks
before the MoU signing and exchanging ceremony, here Monday.
The USM was represented by Dzulkifli while the German University was
represented by Professor Dr Solvay Gerke for the signing ceremony.
The MOU also included exchange of non-teaching and post-graduate workforce,
graduate students and scholarly research.
Gerke said she was looking forward for more collaboration with USM and hoped
that a fruitful result from the ocean study on the straits, would be out within
the next two years.
