MALAYSIAN SERVICE PROVIDERS TO DESCEND ON DUBAI NEXT WEEK

By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, April 6 (Bernama) -- Having scored various forms of success across
the Middle East region, Malaysian companies and service providers can be counted
on to deliver projects entrusted to them.

This may well be the underlying message of the Malaysia Services Exhibition
(MSE) 2010 scheduled here from April 13-15.

Malaysian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yahaya Abdul
Jabar said the event is designed to further enhance the visibility of
Malaysian service providers', their capabilities and expertise.

"It is a good forum for them to network and forge strategic alliances
with potential clients and partners overseas," he told Bernama in a recent
interview.

Yahaya has also appeared on local television to talk about the third
edition of the MSE which follows the inaugural show in Sharjah in 2008 and
Dubai in 2009.

Organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation
(Matrade),
MSE 2010 will be held at the Za'abeel Hall, Dubai International Convention and
Exhibition Centre.

Yahaya said the event will not only promote Malaysian services to the
Middle East but also the surrounding regions.

As far as the UAE is concerned, the envoy reckoned that there are various
opportunities available there for Malaysian service providers.

He cited the construction as well as transportation sectors as among
potentially bright spots, in locations like Abu Dhabi, the Western Region and
Ajman.

"We've been in touch with transport authorities in Abu Dhabi to seek
opportunities for Malaysian firms in public transportation projects, among
others, in the Emirate," said the ambassador.

According to Yahaya, the government of the Emirate of Ajman was embarking
on various tourism, commercial and hospital projects.

As for the Western Region, the envoy said Malaysian companies should be on
the lookout for housing and township projects as well as those in oil and gas,
tourism and others.

"We'll be working with the Professional Services Development Corporation
and the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia to enable some of our
business people to visit the Western Region and see how we can work together
with the UAE government," Yahaya explained.

Judging from the size of potential projects in this country, he observed
that it would be better for Malaysian firms to go in as a group.

"Going it alone, one may not be able to do much. But as a group, we'll be
able to come up with some comprehensive proposals and do the job better," he
said.

Matrade recently disclosed that Malaysian contractors are currently
working on 51 projects worth some US$10 billion in the Middle East, the
majority of it in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Syria, Iran,
Jordan and Yemen.

Malaysian expertise in infrastructure development has been deployed in 73
projects across the Middle East, including landmark initiatives in the UAE such
as the Burj Khalifa, Al Reem Island, Dubai Metro, Dubai Mall and Meydan Race
Course.

Malaysia's construction expertise is currently being exported to 49
countries worldwide.

During the MSE 2010, visitors will be able to get a closer look at the
world-class capabilities of Malaysian companies specialising in eight service
clusters.

Besides construction, the clusters to be featured at the show are
professional services, oil and gas, information communication technology (ICT),
healthcare, franchising, education and specialised training, and financial
services.

Perhaps, taking a cue from the world's increasing preoccupation with
preserving the environment, the exhibition will be highlighting Malaysia's
services in green technology.

There will be a designated pavilion called "Eco-Oasis" to showcase
Malaysia's achievements and capabilities in such technology.

The organisers have also scheduled the launch of a coffee table
book-cum-directory touting Malaysia's credentials in green
technology, during MSE 2010.

The exhibition will be attended by 150 establishments including 130 service
providers, 12 professional associations and eight government agencies.

MSE 2010 is expected to be opened by Malaysian International Trade and
Industry Minister, Mustapa Mohamed.
