Thai investor goes on in electricity investment in Laos

VIENTIANE,6 APRIL (KPL) -The Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited of Thailand has pledged to enlarge a long-term period of investment in electricity development in Laos and move forward another joint venture in the development project of Hongsa lignite power plant.
The Nam Ngum 2 dam in Vientiane province, invested by the Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company has already been completed and commenced generating electricity.
Early this month, an investing company in electricity business of Thailand (Ratchaburi Holding Ltd) inked an investment agreement in the Hongsa lignite power plant in Hongsa district, Sayaboury province in northwestern Laos with the Hongsa Electricity Company Ltd which shares 40 per cent.
On the same day, the Hongsa Electricity Company Ltd and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have reached a power purchase agreement.
Under the agreement the EGAT will purchase 1,473 megawatts of electricity from the Hongsa lignite power plant for 25 years. The imported current will be sent into the EGAT system by 2015.
