TECHNICAL FAULT FORCES AIRASIA FLIGHT TO MACAU TO RETURN TO PENANG

PENANG (Malaysia), April 8 (Bernama) -- An AirAsia flight from Penang to
Macau Thursday turned back to the Bayan Lepas International Airport here when
the pilot detected a technical fault 45 minutes after take-off.

Flight AK 5072, carrying 180 passengers, had departed at 6.30am and returned
at 7.37am, AirAsia Penang station manager Kenneth Tan told reporters at the
airport.

"Forty-five minutes after take-off, the pilot realised he had a technical
problem and decided to turn back," he said.

He also said that all the passengers left for Macau at 12.40pm on another
aircraft of the low-cost carrier.

Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) senior manager in Penang, Abdul Wahab Mohd
Yusof, said the aircraft landed safely and the incident did not disrupt other
flight schedules.
