MALAYSIAN PM ARRIVES IN HANOI FOR 16TH ASEAN SUMMIT

HANOI, April 8 (Bernama) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak arrived
here Wednesday night for the 16th Asean Summit.

Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor were welcomed by Vietnamese
Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Dr Cao Duc Phat at the Noi Bai
International Airport, here, at 8.20 pm (Malaysian time: 9.20pm).

The prime minister will have a packed programme Thursday beginning with the
opening of the Intercontinental Westlake Hotel, here, and witness the signing of
agreements between Malaysian companies and Vietnamese ministries and companies
at the Sheraton Hotel.

These include the signing of project documents between Malaysia's JAKS
Resources Bhd and Vietnam's Ministry of International Trade and Industry
involving the development of a US$2-billion (RM6.4 billion) 600MW coal-fired
thermal power plant in Hai Duong province.

Apart from this, the Hanoi City Peoples' Committee and Malaysian companies
Gamuda Berhad and Gamuda Land Vietnam will sign an agreement for the
construction of a US$500 million (RM1.6 billion) sewage treatment plant in Hoang
Mai district and a township development project in Hanoi.

Another involves Malaysia's AirAsia Berhad and VietJet Aviation Joint Stock
Company signing a strategic partnership agreement for the purpose of providing
airline related services to VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company in this country
with an estimated investment of US$3.5 million (RM11.3 million).

Najib will thereafter proceed to the National Convention Centre here where
he will be joining other Asean Heads of Government/State for a meeting with
Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Representatives.

The prime minister will also attend the opening of the 16th Asean Summit at
the same venue later as well as the plenary session before attending the Asean
Heads of Government/State Working Dinner at Melia Hotel, here.

On Friday, Najib will join his counterparts for a retreat session at the
National Convention Centre and is also scheduled to call on Vietnamese President
Nguyen Minh Triet at the Presidential Palace, here.

Najib is then scheduled to depart from the Noi Bai International Airport at
noon for Washington to attend the World Nuclear Conference.
