Health Minister: Sana`a City chosen to be healthy city

SANA'A, April 10 (Saba) -
Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Abdul Karim Rase'a said on Saturday
that the
City of Sana'a has been chosen to be a healthy city ,in which the best health
practices to be adhered.
In his speech during a celebration held in Sana'a under the motto "Thousand cities
..Thousand lives for the health of cities " on the occasion of World Health Day,
which
marks the 7th of April, Dr.
Rase'a, Dr. Rase'a added that four other cities, which are Aden , Hodeidah ,Taiz and
Tarim, had partaken to be healthy cities.
Dr. Rase'a affirmed the ministry's partnership with the World Health Organization
(WHO) in its efforts and trends to control diseases and adopt the public health
issues
and to enhance the health locally, regionally and internationally.
He pointed that the celebration of the Health Day this year aimed to shed light on
the issue of health in the cities and the involvement of governments, international
organizations,
business companies and civil society in a joint effort in order to put the issue of
health at the essence of urbanization policies.
For his part, the WHO's Representative in Yemen Dr. Ghanem Bhopal said that the
World Health Day this year aimed to implement a campaign throughout the year
targeting the
health challenges in cities at the national and local level in the countries, as
well as to raise awareness and understanding among the people and to encourage the
partnerships
between the local sectors and community contribution in health promotion.
Dr. Bhopal called to expand the healthy cities program launched by the WHO in 1986
to promote the health in the cities in the Middle East region, which succeeded in
facing
a lot of health issues.
