Coast Guard to procure marine guns for its ships

New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) The Indian Coast Guard is all set
to procure marine guns of varying calibres for its ships in an
effort to provide them robust fire power within 4-km range.
The Coast Guard has issued Request for Information
seeking global vendors and manufacturers for supplying marine
guns of 12.7mm, 20mm, 30mm and 40mm calibre.
It would procure a total of 100 guns of 12.7mm calibre,
70 of 20mm and 36 each of 30mm and 40mm, Coast Guard officers
said.
For all these guns, the Coast Guard expects the vendor or
manufacturer to provide fire control and electro-optical
system for exploitation on board its ships both during day and
night in both local and remote mode.
The fire control system (FCS) of these guns should have
both day and night capabilities integrated and should be
capable of firing 500 plus 100 rounds per minute with single
shot and burst fire operation capabilities, apart from
operating in the temperature range of minus 10 degree to plus
50 degree Celsius.
The guns should have provision for collecting empty
shells after firing the round and in-built capacity to store
at least 80 rounds in the feeding, ready-to-use mechanism.
Apart from being marine compatible, the guns' turret
should be watertight to avoid ingress of sea water during
rough weather conditions.
While the 12.7mm guns should not weigh more than 180 kg,
the 20mm guns should be less than 400 kg, the 30mm gun 1,000
kg, and 40mm 3,000 kg, the Coast Guard stipulated. PTI
