CONTINUE EFFORTS TO FIND PEACEFUL SOLUTION IN THAILAND - FM MINISTER




KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia hopes efforts to find a
peaceful solution to the political problems in Thailand will continue and
normalcy to return in the kingdom through peaceful dialogue and negotiations.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said the Malaysian government viewed
with concern the clash between protesters and security forces in Bangkok on
Saturday, which claimed several lives.

"As a close neighbour of Thailand, we call on all parties to exercise
utmost restraint," he said in a statement here Sunday.

He noted that the present situation at the Malaysia-Thailand border areas
were calm and safe for Malaysians to travel.

In view of uncertainties in Bangkok, he said, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
(Wisma Putra) and the Malaysian
embassy in Bangkok were closely monitoring the situation.

Malaysians planning to visit Bangkok and those already in the Thai capital
are advised to avoid premises and areas where rallies and demonstrations are
held and surrounding areas where the roads have been closed.

"They are also advised to take extra care on personal safety and remain
vigilant, and to monitor events and latest developments from the local and
international media," Anifah said.
