JAPAN EXTENDS AID TO MONGOLIAN HERDERS



Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Japanese Non-Project Grant Aid program and "Grass Root" program delivered an aid of fodder, forage and flour costing MNT 999 million to Mongolian herders experiencing zud disaster.
A column of this relief aid left April 10 for Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Bayan-Ulgii, Gobi-Altai, Dundgobi, Zavkhan, Tuv, Khovd, Khovsgol, Ovorkhangai, Omnogobi abd Uvs provinces. Each province will get 100 tons of forage and 40 tons of flour. In addition, the Japanese "Grass Root" program sent 45 tons of fodder and 10 tons of flour to each of these provinces.
In a seeing off the column took part Mongolian Deputy Minister and Head of the State Emergency Commission M.Enkhbold, Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia T.Kidokoro and other officials. At the event, Mr Enkhbold thanked the Japanese Government on behalf of the Government of Mongolia for stretching a helping hand in this difficult time.
The Government of Mongolia is taking a series of actions to help herders in overcoming the difficulties with less damage and has spent about MNT 6.8 billion so far.
As of April 9, 2010, over 6.2 million heads of livestock have perished nationwide due to zud disaster.
