Ponting to see specialist about wrist
Ricky Ponting will visit a specialist about his injured wrist next week after being ruled out of Australia's final two one-day games against the West Indies.
The Australian skipper was already on a plane heading back to Australia by the time his side had claimed victory in the fourth one-day international in St Kitts for a 4-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Medical staff deciding Ponting would be better served returning early for treatment on his right wrist than remaining in the Caribbean for the final weekend of Australia's Test and one-day tour.
"Ricky has a tendon injury in his right wrist and he will be flying home to see a specialist in Melbourne," said Australian team physio Justin Steers. "Given his unavailability for the last match of the series we see this as a good opportunity to have him see the specialist at his earliest convenience."
The skipper's early departure means Michael Clarke will again captain the side in Sunday's final game at Warner Park. It brings to three the number of Australian players forced home early from the Windies tour because of injury.
Matthew Hayden departed before the second Test without playing a game after arriving in Jamaica with an Achilles tendon injury.
Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin broke his finger in the first Test, but played with the injury right through to the one-day series before flying home last week.
