FRENCH GOVT HONOURS TONY FERNANDES FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO AVIATION INDUSTRY
KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- AirAsia Group CEO Dr Tony
Fernandes was conferred the title of "Officier of the Legion d' Honneur" by the
French government for his contributions to the aviation industry.
The title was conferred by the Secretary of State for Transport of France,
Dominique Bussereau, in a ceremony held in Paris Wednesday, said the budget
airline in a statement.
The title is the highest rank of honour the French government can award to a
non-citizen.
AirAsia has largely contributed to the French and European economies by
supporting the European-owned and Toulouse-based Airbus, an European Aeronautic
Defence and Space (EADS) Company.
The airline said it had placed orders for 210 Airbus aircraft.
AirAsia uses the planes extensively for its flights. It has an all-Airbus
fleet for its Malaysia-based operations, it added.
