Norway discusses with "Masdar" implementing carbon dioxide projects
Oslo - April 15, 2010 (WAM)- Norwegian officials have termed "Masdar" city in Abu Dhabi as perfect example of green cities, since it is considered to be the first carbon-neutral city in the world, pointing out that Abu Dhabi has attained a landmark achievement when it started to build "Masdar" city in addition to its decision to move forward in providing clean energy.
In their separate statements to Emirates News Agency "WAM" in Oslo, Mr. Ole Christian Willumsen, Business Developer Manager, Statoil stated that "We're negotiating with the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (ADFEC) in the framework of a partnership to generate renewable energy, assembling and storing carbon dioxide using the latest technologies in the world".
He assured that negotiations were currently underway with "Masdar" for the assembly and storage of carbon dioxide in electric power generating plants along with iron and aluminium factories in UAE.
For his part, Mr Nils Anders Rokke, Director for Climate Technology, SINTEF said that the countries of the world are obliged to spend more than five thousand billion Euros on the assembly and storage projects of carbon dioxide to protect the people of the world from pollution.
He expressed readiness to Cooperate with the GCC countries to store carbon.
He also stated that negotiations are currently underway with "Masdar" to contribute in the project of carbon dioxide assembly and storage in Abu Dhabi.
He stressed that it is possible to store this deadly gas for a period of five thousand years under a depth of 700 meters in the earth's crust.
