WORLD AGRI TRADE PROMOTING M'SIA AS AGRI HUB OF ASEAN
By Wan Nor Azura Mior Abd Aziz and Fathimah Nasra
KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- World Agri Trade (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is
taking the initiative to promote Malaysia as the agricultural hub of Asean
countries through its Asean Agro Trade Business Review Directory 2011/2012.
The directory is expected to be launched at the Malaysia Agriculture,
Horticulture and Agrotourism 2010 (MAHA 2010) Exhibition in November.
This will further establish the sharing of knowledge, skills, technology,
expertise and endeavour towards sustainable agriculture, says MAHA 2010 Chairman
Isahak Yeop Mohd Shar.
"We expect all 10 Asean members and East Asia Summit members to support the
directory," he said.
It will be an ideal platform to increase competition and quality of
production through brand-building awareness, thus serving as a vital information
tool and guide to relevant companies around Asean, he told Bernama after the
pre-launch of the directory by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based
Industries Rohani Abdul Karim.
The directory is set to be an exclusive print platform for ministries,
departments, chambers of commerce and industry, agriculture associations,
universities and research centres.
The directory will feature profiles of 100 top agriculture companies in
each Asean country which are divided into six sectors, namely agriculture,
horticulture, aquaculture, livestock, plantation, commodities, machinery and
Equipment.
WAT was established in 2009 as a special-purpose vehicle to promote
agriculture trade in Malaysia, Asean region and globally.
The company is collaborating with Marditech Corporation Sdn Bhd as its
technological partner.
Isahak said its core business is to promote the country's agriculture sector
while sharing information, networking and transfer of technology through
management consultancy, corporate communication and event management.
Meanwhile, WAT's fertilizer project "Perdana Hijau 19+3" which is 100 per
cent Malaysia product, is the first Nanotechnology fertilizer which
has been distributed to farmers in Langkawi
He said the initiative was to assist farmers to produce better harvest.
About eight metric tonnes per hectare of fertilizer have been distributed to
the farmers, he added.
