Yemen, UNDP discuss $ 4 mln fish component activities

SANA'A, April 17 (Saba) - Minister of Fisheries Mohamed Shamlan discussed here on Saturday with the resident representative
of UNDP in Yemen Mohamed Nasseri activities of the UNDP-funded fish component at accost of USD 4 million.

The component which comes within the project to support the economic
diversification in Yemen, aims to support the Yemeni government efforts in building
the capacities of
workers in the fisheries sector and to ensure sustainability of fishery resources as
well as to study the fish stocks and develop the information system.
The two sides reviewed the procedures for launching work in the quality laboratory
in Hodeidah province funded by UNDP at a cost of USD 857, which will start work in
early
in May.
In the meeting, Shamlan valued the UNDP's support to the fisheries sector in Yemen,
stressing the need to exert more efforts to expand the UNDP work in the fisheries
sector
as one of the promising economic sectors in Yemen.
