NAJIB'S SUCCESSFUL U.S. VISIT A BOOST TO MALAYSIA'S INTERNATIONAL IMAGE, SAYS ENVOY By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun
Razak's recent successful visit to the United States is a boost to Malaysia's reputation internationally.

U.S. Charge d'Affairs in Kuala Lumpur, Robert G. Rapson said the press
coverage had been very positive.

"Certainly, Malaysia is projecting a very positive image, and we are looking
forward to a continued improvement in bilateral relations.

"It was a good visit and we will keep up the momentum," he told Bernama.

Speaking to Malaysian reporters before departing New York for Japan, Najib
described his visit to the United States this time, particularly Washington, as
the most fruitful he had ever made.

He said the sentiment and attitude towards Malaysia had not only changed on
the part of President Barack Obama and his administration but also extended
to Capitol Hill among Senators and Congressmen, as well as the private
sector.

Najib also said his visit had opened a new chapter in Malaysia-U.S.
cooperation, and in areas that would benefit both countries.

He said the momentum of the renewed relations would be followed through
with more frequent exchanges and also visits by leaders of the two
countries.

The Prime Minister wrapped up the week-long working visit to the United
States on Friday.

He is scheduled to arrive in Tokyo on Sunday for a four-day official visit,
his first since taking office.

Najib will have an audience with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko and
also a bilateral meeting with Japan's Prime Minister, Yukio Hatoyama.

He will be accompanied by Rosmah Mansor, and Acting Foreign
Minister Dr Rais Yatim, who is also the Information Communication and
Culture Minister.
