US props up UNHCR programs in Yemen with $ 4.9 mln

SANA'A, April 17 (Saba) - The US
has allocated $ 4.9 million for propping up the humanitarian programs of the United
Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Yemen.
The US embassy announced, in a press release issued on Saturday, that the sum comes
in continuation of the US urgent assistance to the UNHCR programs for the
Internally
Displaced Persons (IDPs) of the rebellion in Saada province and Harf Sufyan of Amran
province, which are over 250,000 IDPs.
The sum is to be used for providing the IDPs with relief and sheltering stuffs in
the IDPs camps in each of Saada, Amran and Hajjah provinces, in addition to support
the
efforts of refugees registration, according to the press release.
The embassy said that the US has presented more than $ 24.5 million as assistance
for humanitarian activities in Yemen since 2008 for Saada IDPs and affected people
of the
rainstorm disaster hit provinces of Hadramout and Mahrah.
