NEW CHAIRMAN WANTS BERNAMA TO BE A LEADER IN INFORMATION DISSEMINATION
KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Newly-appointed Bernama chairman Abdul Rahman Sulaiman wants the Malaysian national news agency to be a leader in information dissemination in the country.
The news agency should rise to the occasion and play its role as the leader
and not as a follower, he said when met during his first visit to Bernama as a
chairman Monday.
Abdul Rahman, 64, is the 10th chairman of Bernama. His appointment took
effect on Feb 1.
He said Bernama should strive to explain government policies in no uncertain
terms.
"This is a central agency, so it is only natural for us to contribute
towards realising the national agenda.
"In the context of democracy, we can say that Bernama is an agency of the
people, by the people and for the people, and the government of the day is
chosen by the people; so it is only natural that we project its policies," he
said.
For instance, Abdul Rahman said, among the government's policies was to take
Malaysia out of the middle-income trap and turn it into a high-income nation.
"So we have to play our role in realising this objective. The same goes to
the 1Malaysia vision," he said.
