MALAYSIA AGREES TO SEND MEDICAL TEAM TO AFGHANISTAN
KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has agreed for the first time
to send a medical team from the armed forces to Afghanistan soon, said Defence
Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the move showed the country's commitment to assist in efforts to
achieve peace in the strife-ridden country.
"There's a strong possibility that Malaysia will send the medical team
before and after the withdrawal of the United States (US) forces in
Afghanistan," he told reporters after a meeting with the US Under Secretary of
Defence for Policy, Michele Flournoy at the Defence Services Asia
(DSA2010)Exhibition and Conference, here Monday.
He said Malaysia also offered to Afghanistan to train their trainers there.
However, Ahmad Zahid said the matter would be discussed in more detail as
soon as Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak returned from Japan.
