Action plan for Yemen's accession to WTO approved

SANA'A, April 19 (Saba) - The
Public Policies Committee on Yemen's accession into the World Trade Organization
(WTO) approved
on Monday an action plan for Yemen's accession to the WTO at the end of 2010.
The plan includes a range of activities such as modernizing the draft report of the
ðWorking Group and the consultative meeting of the group with the WTO's secretary
and
conferencing on the agriculture and standardizing the table of goods and services
and the distribution of the draft report of the work team and the final meeting of
the team
to adopt the package of accession and other relevant activities.
The committee approved the legislative plan accompanying the accession process and
the later years until 2014.
The plan is based on reviewing about 10 laws and amending them to comply with
conventions and requirements of the accession in order to enhance the investment
environment
and ensure the investments inflow to Yemen.
The package of review procedures pointed out that there are about 5 laws being
revised by the parliament after they were approved by the government, while
reviewing of the
rest other laws is ongoing by the concerned ministries and competent authorities.
The committee was briefed on the report of Minister of Industry and Trade on the
results of the 17th meeting of the Working Group on accession of Yemen to the WTO,
which
was attended by 38 countries.
The report noted to the positive outcomes of the meeting and the encouraging signs
by most representatives of the concerned countries, which confirm their support to
Yemen's
accession into the WTO.
The report dealt with the bilateral technical meetings of the head and members of
the Yemeni negotiating team for the accession.
