Security tightened in Mumbai in wake of terror threat
Mumbai, Apr 20 (PTI) Security has been tightened at the
Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport, railway stations
and other vital installations here following an alert issued
by Central security agencies about a possible terror strike in
the city.
Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the City
Police received inputs from Delhi Police and other Central
intelligence agencies stating that there could be a "suspected
terror attack" on April 22 at the airport, officials said.
Besides, one of the malls in suburban Lokhandwala area
and Santacruz railway station are also on the list of targets,
they said.
"Following the twin blasts in Bangalore, the city has
been kept on alert and security was increased at the railway
stations and other vital installations. Threat perception is
always there in the city. Alerts are being received on a
regular basis," a senior police official said.
In the wake of constant alerts about terror threats in
the city, Director General of Police of the western Indian
state of Maharashtra A N Roy Monday reviewed the security
arrangements for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be
held at D Y Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Responding to a query, Roy had said, "It is clear from
the fact of explosions in Bangalore that IPL is on their
(terrorists) target list. Keeping this in mind, the required
number of police deployment has been made at the venue." PTI
