M'SIA HOPES TO COOPERATE WITH JAPAN ON RESEARCH

From Normalazwa Jamaludin

TOKYO, April 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia hopes that the cooperation forged with Japan in the academic field could be widened to other research works including in the maritime sector.

A MARA Council member Datuk Dr Yusof Yacop said Malaysia was rich in terms or
resources and biodiversity which could be used by Japanese academicians in
various fields of research for mutual benefits.

He said Malaysia still considered Japan as a model country not only in terms of
its development but also in terms of its culture and noble values which had been
preserved by the Japanese people until today.

"That's why Malaysia is sending many students to Japan because Prime Minister
Najib Razak wants them to learn more from Japan especially in terms of
technology and innovations," he said in his speech when leading the Mara
Education Foundation (YPM) delegation to the Shimizu Campus of the Tokai
University at Surugawa Gulf, about 200 kilometers from here, Wednesday.

The YPM delegation was greeted on arrival by the Dean of the Faculty of Marine
Science and Technology, Professor Noboru Kato together with three Malaysian
students sponsored by the YPM who are studying Marine Engineering and Ship
Building at the university.

Tokai University is the only university in Japan which has a Marine
Department and Maritime Engineering.
