VIETNAM NEWS AGENCY TO COOPERATE WITH BERNAMA IN TV VENTURE
From Ahmad Zukiman Zain
SEOUL, April 23 (Bernama) -- Vietnam News Agency (VNA), set to launch its
television channel in June, wants to work closely with Bernama in the new
venture, its Deputy Director General Nguyen Hoai Duong said.
He said VNA had sent a team of technicians and cameramen to Kuala Lumpur
some years back to learn from Bernama which had set up its audio-visual unit
before going full-fledge as a 24-hour all-news channel on Feb 28, 2008.
"We want to cooperate with Bernama to get the official news (about
Malaysia)," he told Bernama General Manager Hasnul Hassan during their meeting
on the sidelines of the Organisation of Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA)
Congress Summit here.
Hasnul welcomed the idea, saying it would benefit both agencies which
already had news exchange arrangement through OANA.
They also agreed on the exchange of video news clips while Bernama was
prepared to further train VNA television cameramen and editors.
Duong said the TV station's soft launch is slated for June before taking off
officially in September.
"We can also provide teams and equipment if Bernama wants to do a TV
coverage in Vietnam," he said.
VNA has bureaus in some 60 provinces in Vietnam and in 27 countries around
the world.
Apart from VNA, Mongolian National News Agency, Montsame, was also keen to
cooperate with Bernama in the exchange of news and journalists to foster
understanding between the peoples of both countries.
In a meeting with Hasnul, Montsame General Director Tugalhuu Baasansuren
said the agency wanted to be an active member of OANA and had offered to host
its executive board meeting in Ulan Bator next year.
