MEMORISERS OF THE QURAN TO BE GIVEN ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
MELAKA (Malaysia), April 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government will give
academic recognition to all huffaz or memorisers of the Quran, in the country,
no matter where they pursued their Tahfiz (memorising the Quran), Minister in
the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said.
He said a mechanism was being formulated to enable the recognition to be
given to and used by memorisers of the Quran to pursue their studies to a higher
level or kick start their career.
"God willing, as a short-term strategy, we have also agreed to establish a
National Assembly of Memorisers this year," he said at the closing of the 31st
National Quran Memorising Contest by State Head Mohd Khalil Yaakob
at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here Sunday.
He said memorisers of the Quran should become a change agent to encourage
positive changes among the Muslim.
"We cannot just sit back and relax while watching rampant deterioration of
moral among the community.
"We should be prepared at all times, mentally and physically, to carry out
the preaching of Islam, a duty which was entrusted on all Muslims," he said.
Themed "Strengthening Relations, Empowering the Ummah (Community)", the
five-day competition saw 73 memorisers of the Quran, aged between seven and 25,
contest in three levels: Level 1 (chapter 1 to 10), Level 2 (chapter 1 to 20)
and Level 3 (chapter 1 to 30).
Ahmad Mujahid Salleh Sani, representing the Federal Territories won the
first prize for Level 3, while Muhammad Hariz Syazwan Mohd Arifin from Kelantan
took second place while Mohd Labib Mohamad Anuar from Selangor finished third.
In the women's category, Siti Nadhira Mohd Shafie from Selangor won the
first place, ahead of Mazian Abu Bakar (Federal Territories) and Siti
Farhana Zainudin (Melaka) who took second and third places, respectively.
For the Level 2 men's category, Mohd Iqram Niyaz Ahmad from Kelantan won
first place while Farah Nabilah Amindin from Selangor took the crown in the
women's category.
Ahmad Tarmizi Ali from Terengganu won the men's category for Level 1, while
Farihah Zulkefli (Federal Territories) was named the winner in the women's
category.
Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to winners.
